From the Quiet Revolution to the Second Referendum in 1995: Qu矇bec's Quest for Independence...in picture and sound
Sep 25, 2024

Political filmmaker and documentarian Jean-Pierre Roy will provide a rare opportunity for students and guests to discover the major social and political movements in modern Qu矇bec history. He will offer a unique analysis of the political and identity-related aims of the French-Canadian and Qu矇b矇cois peoples by presenting and commenting on short excerpts from three of his acclaimed documentaries: Questions nationales (2009), devoted to Quebec's desire for independence, La langue terre (2013), concerned with the anglicization of Qu矇bec, and Jacques Parizeau et son pays imagin矇 (2023), dedicated to the life and career of the former premier. What's more, as a former student of political science, he will also talk about the interplay between his career as a filmmaker and his studies in political science. In short, this guest lecture will give students a good overview of the history of Qu矇bec from the Quiet Revolution to the end of the twentieth century. Lecture in French and English. Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 10:50-12:05 in Sullivan 207B. All welcome!
